Free Online Courses For Open Source GIS



Florida State University’s Center For Ocean-Atmospheric Prediction Studies will be offering multiple online courses this fall for several open source GIS programs:

  • DivaGIS
  • uDig
  • MapWindow
  • Basin4 (an adaptation of MapWindow for use in watershed environmental modeling)
  • Quantum GIS
  • AccuGlobe (not open source)

Spring courses will cover:

  • gvSIG
  • OpenJUMP
  • SAGA
  • OSSIM

Free registration required.

1/17/08: The website above has closed, and will be moved to a new website in the future; the new site is expected to open by June of 2008. Check this blog for updates.

7/11/08: The new website should be open by 8/1/2008; check this link for its status.

8/30/08: The new website has a URL, but still isn’t up yet.

    I am a professional Marine Ecologist, and till now I had a big limitation in my abilities â?? no GIS training! And no time to stop working to do a proper thing! And I am in Oman â?? should I move back to Europe only because of it?

    I’ve been looking forward to aquire the skills GIS can offer online as I dont have the opportuinity to do that for two reasons; financially and school work…..alas I gave a sigh of relief when I found this one.
